Thursday is a big day for America.  There have been many before, most came without warning, but from a political standpoint, there has been no bigger day than Thursday, June 28th, 2012.  It is on this day that the Supreme Court is expected to release it’s ruling on the constitutionality of Obamacare.

For the past 2 weeks, this day and what it will mean for the country has been talked about on virtually every radio talk show, every talking heads show on television and all across the internet.  I can not remember a time in my adult life when a ruling from the highest court in the land has been so talked about and so anticipated.  (Perhaps Roe v. Wade but that was a little before my time.)

Aside for the predictions about how the court will rule, there are the predictions about what the response will be from the Obama administration should he lose, and what the response from the American people will be should he win.

If these past 3 years have told us anything, it’s that this administration will not be constrained by the law or the courts.  If it is something Obama wants, Obama gets it, and the law, and the people be dammed.  The citizens of Arizona know exactly what I’m talking about.  So, using his past history as a guide, I fully expect Obama to make an attmept to implement the legislation anyway, even if he has to do it piecemeal.  In a way he has already done so.  More than one federal judge has said that the law is unconstitutional, and despite that, implementation of the law has continued.

The real question is, what will happen if it is upheld?  Despite what the court may rule, it is my belief, and that of millions of Americans, that the law is unconstitutional, so it ought to be a no-brainer that they will rule against Obama.  Unfortuneately, the Surpeme Court can no longer be trusted to rule in favor of the Constitution.  There are countless examples of that in the last 40 years and beyond to prove my point.

So, what will we do should they rule the wrong way?  After all, the Supreme Court is the last hope legally I suppose because there are no other courts we can appeal too.  I ask that question not really sure of the answer.  Some say we will just have to live with it and hope we can some day elect the right people fix it.  How’s that worked out for us with Medicaid or Social Security or Roe v. Wade?  No so good so far.

Others say that it may be the spark that ignites the second American civil war.  I’m not sure the ruling alone would do it or even if there are enough Americans who would be willing to take up arms to initiate a civil war.  But it will bring us close, very close.  I could be wrong on this though since gun sales over the last 3 years have been off the hook.  Trust me, people aren’t buying all those guns to shot holes in paper targets or protect them from bad guys.  No, those guns are being purchased for the most part to protect we the people from our government.

What I think is most likley to happen should it be upheld is that you will see the beginings of states starting to assert their soveign rights and Arizona which has been specifically targetted by this administration may be the state to watch.  Should they elect to succeed, it could mark the begining of the end of the United States as we know it.  Might be time to buy an American flag with a few less stars.
