Radtke: Happy Thanksgiving

Posted by Kurt Feigel   // November 24, 2011   // 0 Comments

On December 4, 1619, 38 settlers arriving at what is now Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County knelt down in prayer beside the James River. Thus began a “yearly and perpetually kept….day of thanksgiving to Almighty God” — the first Day of Thanksgiving in the New World.

There can be no doubt that we live in the greatest state in the greatest nation on Earth. Virginia is the birthplace of representative government in the Americas. We thank God for great Virginians like Mason, Madison, Jefferson, Washington, Wythe and Henry — men who formed this democratic Republic and gave voice to the ideas that all are created equal… that we are endowed, by our Creator with rights that can never be taken — or even given — away…that we have a fundamental right to worship our God as we see fit…that all should be secure in their right to life and liberty, and should have the freedom to pursue happiness.

I have so much to be thankful for. I thank God for my loving and supportive family. I thank Him for my wonderful country. And I am so thankful for all of those who are standing with me in this campaign – especially those wonderful Tea Party patriots around the Commonwealth who encouraged me to stand up and take on this effort.

As we pause today for our national day of Thanksgiving, I want to share with you one of my favorite verses from that wonderful hymn, “America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee)”:
Our fathers’ God, to thee,

author of liberty, to thee we sing;

long may our land be bright

with freedom’s holy light;

protect us by thy might, great God, our King.
May God our King bless all Americans, and all those around the globe who yearn for liberty and see America as their guiding light of freedom.

I wish you and yours a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.

All My Best,

Kurt Feigel
