Open Seat in the Virginia House of Delegates 59th District Causes Stir

The announced retirement of State Delegate Watkins M. Abbitt Jr. a conservative Independent, has created quite a stir of political activity in the 59th district.  The District is composed of part or all of the following counties; Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Nelson, Prince Edward and Albemarle.  We thank Delegate Abbitt for his years of service to his community, the 59th District, and our Commonwealth.

Delegate Abbitt has been a Citizens advocate and has been recognized by many groups; his past awards provide a glimpse of his dedication to Service towards all Virginians which include:

  • Virginia Wildlife Federation, River Conservationist of the Year
  • Virginia Wildlife Legislative Conservationist of the Year
  • Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Legislator of the Year
  • Fraternal Order of Police-Thompson Hall Lodge, Outstanding Service to Law Enforcement
  • Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, certificates of appreciation

Watkins Abbitt, a business owner and avid outdoorsman; he enjoys hunting and fishing, among other hobbies.  Many bills related to the environment were written or supported by Watkins Abbitt.  His common sense approach and knowledge has provided laws that did not restrict freedom and protected the environment.  Who will replace him and best serve the 59th Virginia District?

The Democrats have two Candidates; both support Government Health Control which currently is in limbo due to lawsuits for Constitutional reasons.  They also seek more revenue (tax dollars) for the District which appears they both are big Government advocates.

The Republican Party also has two Candidates; both have announced they would work to bring much needed jobs to the District.  Both Candidates desire to follow in Watkins common sense approach to limited Government and Constitutional restraints for the Citizens of the 59th Virginia District.

After looking at each of the following websites the Republicans appear to understand what their District needs, JOBS, not handouts!

Throughout the years I’ve had many articles published on various topics, mostly political. I have returned to the GOP, not to blend in and nod, but to stand up and be bold! I have learned that our Laws have been written for a two party system. I’ve learned that Independents are outside the system and can only complain and vote; inside the system there is hope for change, back to a Republic. I live between two Tea Party groups (Lynchburg & Jefferson Area) and have participated with both. I hope I can shed some light on the greatness of America, Virginia and with Providence, we can restore our Republic.

The boundaries of the 59th have changed. They are wrong in your article. Prince Edward and Cumberland are no longer in the district.

Thank you Sir for letting me know. I gathered the information from Watkins Abbitt’s Delegate page on the House of Delegates website. Do you have another source?
